2023 Chevrolet Colorado

Chevrolet Colorado in red, blue and silver

The all-new third-generation Chevrolet Colorado will soon be coming to Chevrolet of Spring Valley. The redesigned Colorado remains a mid-size pickup but is ten inches wider than the previous model, and that wider stance brings a much tougher appearance.

It turns out that we have been getting hints of the new Colorado from the Silverado without knowing it. The elegant new Silverado dash was actually based on the dash design set for the Colorado.  And while the turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-4 engine first appeared on the Silverado specification table, it was actually designed for the Colorado. In fact, it is the only engine in the new Colorado.

More Power, More Capability

The base engine that comes standard in the WT and LT trim levels produces 237 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque, which is a significant upgrade from the 200 hp and 191 lb-ft. of the previous base engine.

Optional on those trims and standard on the Trail Boss and Z71, the “2.7 Turbo Plus” is tuned to produce 310 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque. That is a smidgen more horsepower but a whooping load of more torque than the previous model’s V6, which had 308 hp and 275 lb-ft. The top-ranging ZR2 has the “2.7L Turbo High-Output” engine in which the 310 horsepower remains the same, but torque is boosted to 430 lb.-ft. That is 56% more peak torque than the previous V6, and it arrives 1,000 rpm sooner at 3,000.

All Colorados come with the same 8-speed automatic transmission. 2WD is standard on the WT and LT trims. 4WD is optional for them and standard on the Trail Boss, ZR1, and ZR2. All 2023 Colorados come with the 4-door Crew Cab and a 61.7-inch cargo box.

Ground clearance starts at 7.9 inches for the WT and LT, and 8.9 for the ZR1. It rises to 9.5 inches for the Trail Boss and reaches a lofty 10.7 inches for the ZR2. The maximum payload is 1,720 pounds, and the maximum towing capacity is 7,700 pounds. A conveniently available feature is the all-new MultiStowTM Tailgate which has a built-in storage area for the type of items you want with you at all times but don’t want crowding the cabin or bouncing around in the box.

Interior Sophistication

The all-new dash appears two or three design generations from the current model. Its sophisticated horizontal design includes an 11.3-inch diagonal touchscreen infotainment display powered by a Google operating system, which features the Google Assistant voice command system and Google Maps as its navigation system. If you prefer the Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM, it is both on-hand and wireless. A customizable 11-inch digital gauge cluster is an available feature, as is a 6.3-inch head-up display, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 7-speaker Bose® Premium audio system.

The standard HD rearview camera also includes a hitch view setting, which is exactly as it sounds. All models are available with HD Surround vision, and available on the ZR1 and ZR2 are forward and rearward facing underbody cameras to assist in missing those rocks when off-road becomes way off-road. The cameras even feature lens protectors and a washing system.
