Last month, Chevrolet unveiled a brand new addition to the vehicles that they’re offering. ZR2 has been a popular trim level on Chevy trucks for many years, but the grade has never appeared on the Silverado HD. That all changes for the new model year, as the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD ZR2 has officially been announced. This pickup truck will offer the best of both worlds, combining off-road capabilities with the heavy-duty capabilities customers have come to expect from the Silverado HD line of pickup trucks. With a release date of sometime this fall, we thought we’d go through some of the highlighted features that have us hyped for this new truck.

Available Configurations

When the ZR2 trim level first becomes available on the Silverado HD, it will only be available on the 2500HD model. Who knows what the future holds, perhaps a 3500HD ZR2 will pop up down the line, but for now we’re simply stoked about the 2500HD ZR2 that will soon be available. ZR2 is offered only on the Crew Cab configuration and it must be powered by either the standard 6.6L gasoline engine option or the available 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel powertrain. When equipped with the latter, just to give you a taste, the ZR2 will be capable of trailering up to 18,500 pounds alongside all of its off-road capabilities.

Highlighted Features & Design Cues

Enthusiasts will recognize the Silverado 2500HD ZR2 for what it is from the first glance at the truck’s front fascia, as it features the exclusive ZR2 family grille front and center. Other unique design cues include mud guards integrated into the wheel openings, ZR2 badging on the grille bar, a heightened stance to make it more physically imposing than other versions – thanks in large part to a 1.5” factory suspension lift – and, of course, the “flow-tie” emblem.

As for off-road capabilities, these are enhanced by a host of great features. These upgrades include specific front upper and lower control arms, specific steering knuckles, Multimatic DSSV Dampers, rear e-locker, 35” Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, 18×9” aluminum wheels, a front aluminum skid plate and a larger steel transfer case skid plate.

Finally, drivers will also benefit from the new Off-Road Mode. This new feature, when engaged, allows you to relinquish control over several aspects of the vehicle to the system, which will optimize these things for off-road driving so that you don’t have to.
