2025 Tahoe & Suburban Get Significant Tech Upgrades
Chevrolet has revealed the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban models to the world. While not a complete redesign, changes do include revised front-end styling, a more powerful diesel engine, an all-new dash design, and several new technologies, particularly in regards to towing. Chevrolet hasn’t set prices or a launch date, but both models can be expected to arrive at Chevrolet of Spring Valley in the summer or fall of 2024.
Lighting Highlights Exterior Changes
The most notable exterior changes involve the front lighting. LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) take the place of the current headlight location. They are added to a revised version of the current C-shaped DRLs, which now wrap around the housing for projector LED headlights. The layout is similar to that found in the Blazer and other Chevrolet crossovers. The Tahoe and Suburban’s six trims – LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country – all add their own design cues to this new front styling.
“The new faces of Tahoe and Suburban are more expressive, borrowing inspiration from the recently refreshed Chevrolet truck lineup,” said Phil Zak, Executive Design Director, Global Chevrolet. “They remain as versatile as ever, but with a greater emphasis on the details that have driven these large SUVs to the top of their segment.”
Another “big” change is the availability of 24-inch wheels on the RST and High Country trims. This marks a first for Chevrolet. Cypress Gray and Lakeshore Blue Metallic are two newly added exterior colors.
Interior Sports Big Screens and Upgraded Materials
The dash for both models has been completely upgraded. Anchoring the new design is the standard class-leading 17.7-inch center touchscreen. It is integrated into the dash and adjacent to the new 11-inch driver information center. This has both displays on the same horizontal plane, making it easier and quicker to scan both. Below the center display are HVAC vents, and below them are physical controls for the most used climate control functions.
The electronically controlled transmission shifter is now a stalk on the right side of the steering wheel. This not only frees up space on the dash or center console but is more intuitive to use than the current dash button controls. The center screen is angled toward the driver but not so much that it can’t be easily used by the front passenger. The driver enjoys a more refined 3-spoke steering wheel with easier-to-discern thumb controls.
The rest of the cabin features design cues that vary by trim level. For instance, you will find Piano Black and Galvano chrome on some models, while the High Country will feature authentic open-pore wood trim for the first time.
Mechanical Enhancements
Updates have been made to the multi-link independent rear suspension of both model lines to improve ride and handling. High Country and Z71, and for the first time, the RST, are available with air suspensions. Magnetic Ride Control is standard on the Premier and High Country grades and is available on the RST and Z71. The system uses a magnetically reactive fluid inside the dampers that can variably change their stiffness in a split second via electronic input. The dampers can be compliant for a smooth highway ride and then instantly firm up in a curve or tight turn.
The Duramax turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-6 diesel V6 gains almost 30 horsepower to 305 hp.
More Useful Technology
Well aware of the Suburban and Tahoe’s popularity as towing vehicles, much of the model’s new technology is focused on making towing easier in a variety of ways. The Max Trailering Package includes features such as:
- Hitch View – Displays a top-down image to help line up the vehicle and trailer.
- Hill Descent Control – Controls speed on steep descents to allow the driver to concentrate on steering.
- Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering – Can extend the blind spot to include the trailer length.
- Chevrolet Trailering App – You can input the type of trailer you are towing, and the app will adjust other vehicle systems accordingly.
Chevrolet has additional towing features, including:
- Trailer Tire Health – Helps prevent trailer tire blowouts with a trailer tire life monitor and over-speed warning.
- Mobile Trailering App Load Rating Info – Offers anytime/anywhere access to the vehicle’s load rating.
- Forward Path Indication – Helps drivers navigate with their trailer with guidelines on the Surround View to indicate the width of the trailer and the trailer’s path. When the turn signal is activated, guidelines will show the driver the estimated turning path for both the vehicle and trailer.
- Boat Ramp Assist – Helps customers access a checklist and step-by-step instructions to prepare for towing, launching, and retrieving a boat, is newly available within the trailering app.
- Trailer Navigation – Calculates routes based on trailer size using built-in Google Maps.
Other new technologies that are unrelated to towing include Connected Cameras, which enable the owner to view the interior and exterior of the vehicle using the HD Surround-view cameras through their smartphone or similar device. The Interior Motion Detection feature is sensitive enough to notice if a baby or small child is left behind inside the vehicle by their breathing. All Suburbans and Tahoes will continue to come standard with the Chevy Safety Assist group of safety and driver assistance technologies, and of course, Super Cruise will continue to be available.
All of these changes amount to a major investment in the Arlington, Texas, Assembly plant. which turns 70 years old in 2024. The 2025 Suburban and the 2025 Tahoe will both come to Chevrolet of Spring Valley sometime in 2024 though it hasn’t been announced as to when.
