Maximum Towing Capacity
Let’s start with the biggest number possible in a Silverado 1500, as the number isn’t the same for every configuration of the truck. How much you’ll be able to tow with your Silverado depends largely on its powertrain as well as some other factors. But the highest possible trailer rating in this year’s Silverado 1500 is 13,300 pounds, which is higher than almost every other pickup truck in its class.
Powertrain Options
When shopping for your 2023 Silverado 1500, you’ll have four different engine options from which to choose, as well as two drivetrains. When equipped with two-wheel drive, you’ll be able to hit the maximum capacity by choosing the Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel engine and also opting for the Max Trailering Package and 20” wheels with either the Standard Bed Crew Cab or Double Cab. In order to get that max capacity with four-wheel drive, you need to choose the 6.2L V8 engine on the RST Double Cab trim level and opt for both the Max Trailering Package and 20” wheels.
On the flip side, if you’re looking for the bare minimum when it comes to trailering capacities, that number would be 8,900 lbs. which is what the 2.7L turbocharged engine can deliver when equipped with the Regular Cab, Standard Bed and 4×4 drivetrain.
There are far too many different combinations to go over in one blog, but we’ve got some general rules of thumb for you. The more powerful the engine, typically the more weight the truck can tow. Likewise, opting for the Max Trailering Package and 20” wheels will make sure you’re getting the most towing available in a given configuration.
