Las Vegas Audience Cheers for Record Breaking 1966 Chevy C10 Restomod at Barrett-Jackson Auction
The 1966 Chevy C10 Restomod Surprised Bidders and Onlookers Alike
At the 2022 Barrett-Jackson auction, everyone was amazed when the 1966 Chevy C10 reached a record high bid of $275,000.
Riley Performance in Gainesville, Texas, completely reinvented this customized pickup by starting with a clean slate and then building on top of it.
Rory Roberts and Joey Riley established Riley Performance in 2008. They brought their expertise together and built an award-winning custom car business that makes dream cars a reality.
Last year’s Chevrolet C10 pickups, the 1972 Chevrolet C10, sold for $82,500.00 and the 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne Super Pickup, sold for $93,500.00. Restomod muscle cars are valued by the desirability of their make and model and the degree of customization.
The 1966 Chevy C10 Restomod Impressive Specs
From 1960 until 1965, Chevrolet used a 283ci V-8 engine for the C10, but in 1966, it was replaced with the 327ci V-8 to maximize more power. Riley Performance took it a great deal further by completely customizing the engine bay and adding a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA engine. It delivers 600 horsepower and features a polished stainless-steel exhaust that goes through the frame and exits near the rear bumper. The vehicle is equipped with a 4L85E four speed automatic transmission and a high performance Wilwood brake system.
This Chevrolet C10 has an extraordinary performance as well as a fantastic exterior. The attention to detail is evident in its brilliant subterranean/champagne silver paint job that’s finished with 8 coats of glossy clear paint. The new color stands out from the original 15 solid colors, some of which are light green, dark aqua and even yellow.
The unexpected showstopper features include Italian champagne-colored leather upholstery and translucent panels showing the electrical system with LED lights. Unlike vintage C10’s this customization comes with a digital control center and a 1,200 watt stereo system enhances the driving experience.
Vehicle Customization Advances in the US
The restomod craze has been driven by the desire to install modern technology into domestic antique cars. Enthusiasts and builders have been loving how restomods have evolved since it started out as a trend in the late 1980s.
As a result of technological advances, vehicle manufacturers incorporated more dynamic mechanisms into their products throughout the 1990s. Newly modeled vehicles were built with more powerful engines, disc brakes, and better performance tire technology, which led to greater acceleration and braking ability. Computer-designed suspensions and transmissions made it possible for modern cars to drive with greater stability and efficiency. Builders and owners of vintage cars sought to upgrade the specifications of their vehicles to keep pace with newer models and in many cases, to outshine them.
