Life with a Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Can you have a Corvette Z06, arguably the best supercar money can buy, as your daily driver? This is a question Car and Driver think needs to be answered by taking delivery of a long-term 2023 Corvette Z06. Not only is the fastest car Chevrolet has ever made able to beat the best and fastest cars on the road at the track, but it can also be used for everyday tasks.
Engine & Performance
The Corvette Z06 has a naturally-aspirated, flat-plane crank 5.5-liter V8 that churns out 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque that is put to the rear wheels via an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. You can get one in coupe or convertible form with a starting MSRP of 108,100. Chevrolet says their latest supercar can reach 60 mph in around 2.6 seconds.
What Is A Long-Term Test?
When car magazines get a long-term vehicle, it allows them to test it in ways that the normal buying public would. Instead of just doing 0-60 and ¼-mile times with it, journalists will use these cars for up to 40,000 miles, making road trips, school runs, and other outings.
Everyday Sports Car
One of the shining reasons people love the Corvette is because it is a usable and reliable sports car. It looks great and doesn’t cost as much as its competition, but it still features the same or better performance than its rivals. Nearly every generation of Corvette has been touted as a car that can hold golf clubs in the trunk, and the latest generation, the C8, is no different.
As one writer for Car and Driver put it, “Supercars and even sports cars usually don’t mix well with golf, where the clubs are often forced to ride shotgun. But that’s not true of the Corvette, including the Z06, which retains the same wide rear trunk that’s plenty lengthy enough to accommodate the sticks, without removing the woods. In fact, the trunk is deep enough to get two modestly sized bags in there, while still leaving the front trunk to swallow a couple duffle bags and other weekend supplies.”
Cargo Capacity
A sports car that can fit at least a set of golf clubs shows that it has enough available space for other everyday errands and activities. The overall cargo capacity between the front and rear trunks is 12.6 cu.ft.
Happiness With A Steering Wheel
Some people will ask why you would want such a car for daily use, and Car and Driver covered this as well: “The Z06 is an incredible machine, but driving it around town and doing mundane things on a normal Tuesday evening felt like overkill. At the same time, the Corvette made me feel like I was living my best life, with the V-8 shrieking behind my head while I was nestled in the jet-fighter cockpit. So, I leaned into the ridiculousness, putting the car in manual mode to allow the transmission to reach lofty revolutions before snapping off crisp shifts like thunderclaps with the paddles.”
While it seems unconventional to have such a sports car as your primary form of transportation, even as a two-door, two-seat supercar, it is useful and purposeful. But more than that, it will stir the soul, making kids and adults smile and giggle when they hear it drive by.
