MotorTrend Says Chevy Colorado Better Than Toyota Tacoma
MotorTrend magazine recently compared the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and the 2024 Toyota Tacoma. Since its introduction, the first and second-generation Colorado has won the MotorTrend Truck of the Year a total of three times, including for 2024, “Chevy’s been battling Toyota both here and abroad while riding a wave of critical acclaim for its stout midsizer. The previous-generation Colorado was a two-time MotorTrend Truck of the Year winner, and the new-for-2023 model recently earned our 2024 Truck of the Year title.”
Engine and Towing Power
Thanks to a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-4 that produces 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, the mid-size Chevrolet pickup easily outguns the Tacoma. MotorTrend said, “Although the Tacoma will largely meet consumer expectations as to what a traditional pickup drives like, the Colorado will likely exceed them. The Chevy feels like a more mature truck—a better tool, if you will—than the Tacoma. The most obvious difference is the glut of extra power on tap from its large 2.7-liter turbo I-4. After getting through some minor turbo lag, a huge lump of torque becomes available from the Colorado’s engine, making the Chevy effortless to pilot.” The Chevy also offers more maximum towing capacity, 7,700 lbs compared to 6,400 lbs in the Tacoma.
Trim Levels and Safety Features
The 2024 Colorado is easy on the wallet with its base price of just $29,500. Buyers can choose from five trim levels: Work Truck (WT), LT, Z71, ZR2, and Trail Boss. Customers will love the 11-inch digital instrument cluster, an 11.3-inch touchscreen infotainment display, as well as the class-exclusive underbody cameras for off-roading, and standard Chevy Safety Assist, which features Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic high-beam assist. Optional safety features include Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, HD Surround Vision, and Rear Pedestrian Alert.
In Conclusion
At the end of the comparison test between the all-new Colorado and the all-new Tacoma, MotorTrend said, “The Chevy team doubled down on the previous Colorado’s confidence-inspiring dynamics by adding a new engine that blends the power, torque, and efficiency we loved from its discontinued gas V-6 and turbodiesel I-4 engines into one package, while also improving its bed and cargo areas.”
