MotorTrend has been working with a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 for quite some time. Available on all model levels, the extremely useful and flexible Multi-Flex Tailgate offers six different functions to help improve loading, unloading, and accessing the cargo bed. Here’s how each function works: 

Primary gate: Opens from the key fob, a switch inside the truck, or a button on the gate. 

Primary gate load stop: Helps prevent extra-long items from sliding out of the bed. 

Easy access: The inner gate folds down, allowing you to reach farther into the bed. 

Full-width step: The inner gate folds down into a large step for easy access, capable of holding up to 375 lbs. 

Inner gate load stop: Helps prevent second-tier items from sliding out of the bed. 

Inner gate with work surface: When opened, it provides a place for a laptop or blueprints, as well as second-tier loading. 

The Multi-Flex Tailgate configurations activate using a key fob or two tailgate-mounted buttons, one for the full gate and another for the inner gate. There is also a power tailgate button on the instrument panel. Once deployed, they offer the greatest convenience for anyone who uses the pickup bed. It also creates ease of access, making work or play a breeze.  

How useful is it? The reviewer at MotorTrend stated that “dropping the inner gate allows us to get closer to the bed and more easily reach for items that are farther from the tailgate. It’s also super handy for those once-a-year trips to the home improvement store that require loading a pallet into the bed with a forklift. We also find ourselves utilizing the built-in step far more frequently than one would imagine.”
