SlashGear Highlights the Refreshed 2025 Suburban’s New Features
The Suburban enters the 2025 model year with a mid-cycle refresh for the 12-generation model.
The SlashGear website reviewed the revised 2025 Suburban to examine the new changes. They focused on four features that struck them about the model’s mid-cycle refresh and Chevrolet of Spring Valley reports on what they found.
Class-Leading Infotainment Screen
As a website that reviews tech products, SlashGear was naturally interested in the Suburban’s in-car technology, particularly the new standard 17.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is the biggest in the class compared to the 10.25-inch screen in the Jeep Wagoneer or the 13.2-inch screen in the Ford Expedition. The also screen no longer sticks up on its own but is integrated with the binnacle containing the 11-inch digital driver’s display. The dash was designed around the screen, which is quite elegant. Fortunately, the size of the cabin keeps the screen size from being overwhelming.
The More Powerful Duramax Comes to the Suburban
The updated version of the Duramax 3.0-liter turbodiesel inline-6 engine will come later in the model year that first appeared in the 2024 Silverado. Revisions to the engine include a retuned turbo compressor, higher-flow fuel injectors, new steel pistons with revised piston-cooling oil jets, and improved temperature control features with the cooling system’s Active Thermal Management. The result is 305 horsepower, an increase of 28, with peak torque up by 35 lb-ft to 495 in total. Chevrolet also reworked the induction system and added more sound-deadening materials, making the engine quieter and more refined. The 5.3L and 6.2L V8s remain unchanged and will hold the fort until the Duramax becomes available.
Making the Highway Ride Even Smoother
Chevrolet finessed the Suburban’s independent multilink coil-spring rear suspension system for a smoother highway ride. They also fine-tuned the steering calibration for a more precise feel. The Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, previously only available on the Suburban Z71 and High Country models, is now available on the RST. The Magnetic Ride Control suspension, which features dampers that react to an electronic charge and can instantaneously change their firmness settings depending on conditions, is standard on Premier and High Country models and is available on the RST and Z71.
New Safety Features
As easy as it is to feel safe in a vehicle as large as a Suburban, Chevrolet’s standard Chevy’s Safety Assist suite of driver-assist features adds credibility to the feeling. It includes:
• Forward automatic emergency braking
• Forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection
• Lane-departure warning and lane-keep assist
• Automatic high-beam headlights
• Front and rear parking sensors
For 2025, an interior motion detector will enhance the rear seat alert system to ensure no one is left behind. A Connected Camera System lets you see all around the vehicle, even remotely, through your smartphone. GM’s industry-leading SuperCruise system will be available later in the year.
Unmentioned by SlashGear, but still worth noting, is the Suburban’s revised front end, which adopts the Chevrolet SUV family look of a thin upper grille matched by thin DRLs on either side, where the headlights used to be. Like Chevrolet’s other SUVs, the LED headlights are almost hidden within the secondary C-shaped DRLs in each front corner. There is also a new wheel design.
Already the standard of its class, Chevrolet never stops improving on its biggest model. As of this writing, 2025 Suburbans haven’t arrived yet.
