Trail Boss Joins The Silverado HD Family
The truck roots of the Chevrolet Silverado pickup run deep, all the way back to 1955 when Chevy introduced the first-ever truck without flared rear fenders called the Cameo Carrier. If there is one thing Chevy knows, it’s trucks. As one of the best-selling vehicles in America, customers are buying more trucks to use as family vehicles and using them for towing and hauling. For the 2025 model year, Chevrolet has given some subtle updates to the Silverado HD.
The Trail Boss Is Coming
The Trail Boss has been an option on the Silverado 1500 since 2019 and has been one of the most popular trim levels, which will now be featured as a part of the Silverado 2500HD lineup for the first time. When buyers choose the Trail Boss, they get black front and rear bumpers, red front tow hooks, special 20-inch black wheels wrapped in meatier tires, and off-road suspension courtesy of the HD Z71.
Engines & Power
While not all the details have been released by Chevrolet, expect to see embossed seats with the Trail Boss logo, among other special interior features. Buyers will be able to choose between two engines: a 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine with 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque or a 6.6-liter turbocharged Duramax diesel that produces 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. Both engines have an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission.
Towing Capacity & Features
For 2025, the Silverado HD can tow tons. Gas-powered HD models can tow up to 26,000 lbs, while Duramax models can tow up to 22,500 lbs. The Chevy Silverado HD not only tows a lot but also gives buyers an easier time than ever to tow with features such as HD Surround Vision with up to 14 unique camera views, Bed View, and an in-vehicle Trailering App.
Estimated Price
While pricing has not been released yet, expect the base price of the Silverado HD Trail Boss to be around $50,000-$60,000, which is roughly $4,000-$5,000 more than the standard LT and LTZ trims. The Trail Boss is based on LT and LTZ models, which slots below the ZR2, the most off-road-ready Silverado in the lineup.
