What Are the Towing Capacities of a Chevrolet Silverado HD?
We love to tow in Southeastern Minnesota. It is what we do. We have campers to bring along, farm implements to transfer, and snowmobiles to take up to the cabin. You need a reliable and powerful pickup truck that can handle these tasks with ease. That is why you choose the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD. You can do so much with one of these heavy-duty rigs for miles on end.
How do you know what you can tow in a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado HD?
The 2025 Silverado HD is available in two series: 2500HD and 3500HD. Each has its own weight limits based on various specifications. A maximum tow rating depends on the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating and the Gross Combined Weight Rating of each pickup truck. The actual figure your specific Silverado HD pickup truck can tow will depend on the cab type, bed size, engine, final drive system, the number of rear wheels, and the tow connection type.
Depending on the engine and configuration, a 2500HD or 3500HD can tow up to 20,000 pounds using a conventional ball tow connection. If you choose Duramax diesel on either the 2500HD or 3500HD, you will get the full benefit of these towing capacities.
However, you can also set up a fifth wheel/gooseneck connection from the middle of the bed. The 2500 HD offers segment-leading maximum Crew Cab towing capability with a fifth wheel/gooseneck connection of 21,500 pounds with the available Duramax turbocharged diesel and four-wheel drive. Silverado 3500HD dual rear wheel models powered by the available Duramax Turbodiesel can pull up to 31,500 pounds with a fifth wheel/gooseneck connection in a Single Cab configuration with four-wheel drive.
The 2025 Silverado HD has a choice of engines capable of handling these towing tasks. The available Duramax turbocharged diesel offers 975 pound-feet of torque where you need it the most. The Duramax’s low-end grunt is more than enough to handle larger tasks.
The standard 6.6-liter gasoline-fueled V8 engine is no slouch, either. It puts down 464 pound-feet of torque, which is enough to haul lawn equipment or a travel trailer without straining the motor or the truck. You can also fuel it up with E85 where available.
The Silverado HD is designed to make your trailering experience easy. That is why it offers a host of available advanced towing technologies where you can feel confident every time you hitch up. For example, the Silverado HD offers up to 14 camera views, which come in handy when hitching up, backing up, or just maneuvering the road around you. Plus, Enhanced Transparent Trailer View is available for both conventional and fifth wheel/gooseneck trailering. In addition, you’ll have access to other smart trailering tech, such as the available Adaptive Cruise Control with trailering.
