Chevy Is a Leader In Electric Mobility
What Was the First Electric Chevy Vehicle?
The automotive industry is always changing, and in the last several years, electric mobility has certainly taken off. More and more auto manufacturers are coming out with electric or hybrid vehicle options. This includes Chevy, a brand that has actually been at the forefront of electric vehicle technology for quite some time.
Do you remember what the first electric Chevy model was? If you do, we’re willing to bet it might not actually be the first. If you’re thinking it’s the Volt, which was named the Car of the Year in 2011, you would actually be wrong.
It’s OK. Most people think of electric cars as being some kind of brand-new invention. Though the technology has certainly advanced over the years, electric cars are actually nothing new. In fact, Chevy isn’t new to making them either.
In 1996, GM came out with the EV1, the first mass-produced electric vehicle. The following year, Chevy came out with the electric S-10 compact pickup truck. Each of these models paved the way for today’s modern options like the Volt and the models that have followed.
Future Chevy Electric Models
So, now that we have some background on what Chevy has done with electric vehicles in the past, what is planned for the future? There is actually a lot of exciting developments taking place.
Chevy aims to offer an electric vehicle for anyone and everyone. They already have the Bolt small car, but later this year, they will be adding an electric Silverado pickup, an electric Equinox compact SUV and an electric Blazer SUV.
