What’s It Like to Live With A Blazer EV For A Week?
For many of us, our first viewing of the Chevrolet Blazer EV was during the Barbie movie (as it was the vehicle driven by the leading human character), and it came complete with gas-engine sounds because—Hollywood. For the reviewer at Tom’s Guide, a site that reviews mostly tech items and occasionally cars, his first view of the Chevy Blazer EV was while he was testing another EV and one came up from behind. Before long, he had the Blazer EV RS to test for the week, and Chevrolet of Spring Valley rides along.
Reviewer John Velasco’s week-long experience with the Blazer EV RS covered 429 miles and 13.1 hours of testing. At the end of his 429 miles, he found he was achieving an efficiency of 3.2 miles per kWh (how many miles the Blazer EV went on 1 kWh of electricity). That’s quite impressive considering the Blazer EV’s size.
As he pointed out, if you purchase a Blazer EV or any other EV and can charge from home, it is best to install a Level 2 charger, which will fully charge most EVs easily overnight. The Blazer EV is expected to fully charge and empty battery overnight in about 9 to 13 hours, depending on your home amperage.
The first thing that impressed John about the vehicle itself was the large head-up display, a feature on the RS model. He found the images much clearer than similar displays he had viewed in the past and appreciated the ability to lower the image so as not to interfere with the view ahead.
Next, he noticed the round climate vents, which looked like they came from a jet engine but actually moved with the ease of airline cabin vents. He noted that each vent could be shut off simply by rotating it, and that at night, LEDs inside the vents gave them a nice glow.
Speaking of lights, he said he was “always mesmerized by the animation sequence of the Chevy Blazer whenever I unlock or approach it with the key fob in hand… In particular, I love how the front headlights have this breathing animation that eventually lights up the Chevy emblem in the middle. Small details like this go a long way in convincing people that EVs are uniquely different.”
This wasn’t the most technical car review out there, but it does show the impression the Blazer EV makes on an average consumer. If you want to form your own Blazer EV impression, contact Chevrolet of Spring Valley and see about getting a test drive. It won’t last a week, but we will be sure to cover everything you need to know about going EV in this great-looking crossover.
