Which One Would You Choose: Colorado ZR2 Bison or Ranger Raptor?
If you are looking for an off-road adventure, which mid-size pickup truck would you choose?
The new 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor is supposed to be a legend in the making. With a twin-turbocharged V6, all-terrain tires, and tuned off-road suspension, it is a pretty formidable truck. You can see the fans flocking to it – even before it had a chance to traverse any desert or trail in Minnesota.
Let’s not forget that we have our own legend on the same dusty trail – the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison.
We get that the Ranger Raptor is a cool-looking truck that is full of capabilities. However, we can argue that our Colorado ZR2 Bison has a lot more advantages that make it a better off-roader than that other mid-size pickup.
First off, the Colorado ZR2 has more ground clearance than any pickup truck in its class at 12.2 inches. With greater ground clearance, that means better management of what’s below you – moguls, uneven trails, rocks, and other obstacles that could ruin your suspension and frame.
Speaking of suspension, the Multimatic Jounce Control dampers are an essential part of the Colorado ZR2 Bison. Managing a 4.2-inch lift from standard pickup trucks, the Multimatic dampers keep the Colorado from transmitting rougher parts of the trail into the cabin. It also helps that the Colorado ZR2 Bison rides on 35-inch all-OD MT tires – the largest in its class.
The Colorado also offers a set of underbody cameras. While most off-road-ready vehicles give you a frontward angle to see what’s ahead, none of these vehicles can give you a view below you. These cameras help to show you what you missed ahead that might be tough to navigate once you are on top of the obstacle.
Protecting the frame from those obstacles are five Boron Steel Skid Plates. They are the toughest skid plates in the business – and are installed when your Colorado ZR2 Bison comes off the assembly line.
Looking for power? The ZR2 Bison’s TurboMax engine may have just four cylinders, but it puts down more torque than any off-road truck in its size class at 430 pound-feet.
Ask someone with a Ranger Raptor if they have any of these features. They’ll answer “no.”
There is one thing the Colorado ZR2 Bison has that the Ranger Raptor doesn’t: The 2024 Motor Trend Truck of The Year award.
Minnesota has a few off-road parks that would allow either truck to explore its trails. This is your invitation to take delivery of a 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison from Chevrolet Spring Valley. Contact us to get yours off the highway today.
