One great way that industry journalists figure out what brands might have in store for the future is to search for camouflaged prototypes while they’re being tested out in the wild. When an automaker is building a new vehicle, they need to make sure that everything works the way it’s supposed to. While plenty of this can be done in hiding wherever their engineers are working, eventually some true road tests are required. That’s when the crew camouflages the vehicle to keep the details as hidden from prying eyes as possible before taking it out on the roads, which is in turn when automotive photographers snap pics to help journalists figure out what’s in store. Thanks to some recent spy photos of this variety, we find ourselves asking if there will be two new ultra performance Corvette variants released next year!?

What do we know so far?

2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Exterior Driver Side Front ProfileWe know very little about any potential variants of the Corvette being introduced next year. Naturally, this year saw the introduction of the new Z06 variant, joining the Stingray – which itself has a special limited 70th Anniversary Edition. Beyond that, most Corvette related news has been surrounding the 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray, the new electrified hybrid variant. Despite the lack of official information or announcements, four camouflaged Corvette variants were very much spotted out in the wild. We know that they are clearly members of the Corvette family, and clearly not any of the three currently known variants – Stingray, Z06, E-Ray. So, what might these variants be?

Speculation so far suggests that there were at least two different variants among the four camouflaged vehicles that were photographed. Even through the camouflage, we can pull out some information. For example, all four models featured a central exhaust system similar to the Z06. We know that two of the models feature a large wing very similar to the one found in the Z07 package, which is only available on the Z06 body style.

All of this information plus other tidbits plucked from the images have led a lot of industry brains to suspect two very possible potential options for what these variants could be. The first is the long awaited arrival of a heavily rumored variant called the Corvette Zora, which is believed to be an plug-in hybrid version of the Corvette capable of generating north of 1,000 horsepower. The second is the highly anticipated return of the iconic ZR1 trim level, which would certainly fit the high-performance nature of these camouflaged models.

In summation, we don’t know if either of these two guesses are right, nor do we know when exactly they’ll be released, be it next year or even later. What we do know… is that we’ll be sure to fill you in as soon as information becomes available!
